View from Lipan Point, Grand Canyon

Guy Schmickle and I decided to go to the Grand Canyon and attempt to catch some great images of the monsoon thunderstorms. We had incredible luck the last time we tried it. Unfortunately, there were so many storms that they created too many shadows, so the overall light was not so good. There was also a ton of rain, so we were scrambling back to the car a lot. Needless to say, we had a great deal of trouble getting good images. Here is one I worked on that is at least presentable. Other than this one there wasn't much that I captured. Guy did a better job of getting a few more images.

Lipan Point is my favorite spot there Doug! Great job on getting this, you got some nice light. Was this a break during the storm?

And it can get crazy up there when it starts to rain, and the canyon sucks light out of an image so fast if there isn't much light.

Actually, there were storms all over the place. When we tried to escape one and go to a different place another one would catch up with us. We went to Lipan point several times and stayed there near sunset in an attempt to get some good crack light. There were also people everywhere. I had to clone out three people in this image. I took this image a week ago. That is how long it took me to find one I could process into acceptability.

I like this image a lot. The storm clouds & afternoon(?) light make for some great color/contrasts.

Looks great Doug. We all know the feeling of leaving a place and having hoped for more. This just means you will have to return 😎.
That is so true, Dean. However, I much prefer leaving with the excitement that I may have captured something really good. Looking back, I am sure part of the problem was that the last time Guy and I got more good images than we have ever gotten on one photo trip.
