Tundra

What a fun trip that had to have been. I sure like the water/ice floe patterns in #1 and the radiating clouds in #2. Did you shoot this from one of those big snowcats?

Thank Jim. It was a fun trip alright. Yes this was shot from a tundra buggy. They look like this with wheels over 6' high. The bears can't reach you.

This is bleak and barren and because of that dramatic.
This goes well beyond simply looking cold. <reaching for more fleece>....... That is a seriously bleak looking environment.
Thanks Ben and Alan. Bleak and barren is right. Not much grows there. The buggies are heated though. They also serve as your lodging for the duration of your stay. The food is served there as well. The image below should give you a good idea. Stayed there for around 4 days.

This is what the day looks like - out looking for polar bears. These vehicles can do no more than a couple of miles an hour.

Whoo Hooo !!! Love that scene in # 1. Never heard of the "tundra buggy", but that looks interesting. Did you consider an uber?

I hope so see some bear pics (and anything else you got out there). If you post some bear shots, at least put a link here; I rarely get to the wildlife part of the forum.

I will not use the terms Bleak and Barren. People often refer to the deserts that way and I find plenty of life and interest there. These fine images are wonderfully bright and graphically interesting. Vast and open and fascinating. Nice imaging, Jameel.

That first one is stark yet beautiful, Jameel. I love the patterns of the meander scars.

Wonderful the difference that the North Atlantic drift makes. Assynt in NW Scotland is at the same latitude and although cold in the winter it doesn't get much snow far less frozen seas. This Dec 29th the overnight temperature was 62F an all time record and a few days later the daytime temp reached 65F and that wouldn't be out of place on a summer's day. I have friends who visited last spring and came back with stunning images of polar bears taken from the Tundra Buggy. Ken
