The 10 Mile U-turn

I am driving on the I-80 heading west in Nebraska after a great week of capturing fall colors with my trip culminating with get to spend some awesome time with @Bob Israel and is wonderful wife.

As I am driving on the I-80 and there is mile after mile after mile of corn fields and many people might get bored with the drive, but I find the drive so interesting. There are so many cool farms and the occasional tree and the unique shapes of each corn field. It's a good thing I have 2 eyes as I have 1 eye on the road and 1 eye on the corn fields. Every field or building I come to, I envision how I would photograph it. What a fun and creative exercise. I choose to be excited instead of bored.

Now I can't stop at every cool field or barn otherwise I won't get to Colorado today and my daughter might report me as a missing person if I do too many stops today. But when I saw these buildings I knew I had to stop and capture them. But being on the freeway there was no place to stop, and then I saw a sign announcing the next exit was 5 miles ahead. A quick look at the map showed I had just passed an exit and also there were some backroads where I could pullover and fly the drone from. It only took a second to decide it would be worth the 10 mile round trip U-Turn to get back here and set up on the back road.

I think it was totally worth the stop for photos and video. There is fall color going in the trees, but in the end I went for a desaturated, antique look.

All comments are welcome,

Jim

Ten miles isn't all that much of a detour when you are driving on interstate highways and I have definitely seen worse distances.

Not a lot of utility left in those structures beyond making a nice photo subject. :)

Jim, funny you stopped here.

A few years ago I was driving on I-80, near Deeth Starr exit, there were quite a few run down places like these, I didn't have the drone though, so I kept going.

Like this shot a lot.
