Sorry, another icon

Icons are just that for good reason, they are typically great views of beautiful scenes. This viewpoint in Yosemite Park, California, is often called Gates of the Valley, or Valley View. (raise your hand if you didn't already know that. None? That's what I thought). I've photographed it for decades, and it was looking particularly good last week. One day some rain was predicted for that evening, and sure enough the afternoon brought the light storm clouds. The gentle rain was nice that night as I wondered how the image I had made there would turn out. Satisfied.

I love that view and the dramatic light you had. The foreground snow doesn't work for me though - too bright, keeps drawing my eye down. Did you shoot one with the river as a foreground also?

Absolutely fantastic! I will be there next year (hopefully) and even though this is an icon I will definitely try to take an image of it. I am fairly sure I will not get an image as wonderful as this. The snow and the fall colors really contrast well.

Thanks Mike. I believe you surely will get an absolutely fantastic image there. Just drive around all day for a few days visiting the same locations at various times of day, and bang, there it will be!
