Icons are just that for good reason, they are typically great views of beautiful scenes. This viewpoint in Yosemite Park, California, is often called Gates of the Valley, or Valley View. (raise your hand if you didn't already know that. None? That's what I thought). I've photographed it for decades, and it was looking particularly good last week. One day some rain was predicted for that evening, and sure enough the afternoon brought the light storm clouds. The gentle rain was nice that night as I wondered how the image I had made there would turn out. Satisfied.
