Going to turn my DSLR into a pinhole camera this weekend courtesy of a lens cap meeting its destiny. Will post the, er, more interesting results....

Oh how fun! I could try that with my broken D810 since it’s missing the lens mount anyway...

well I am going to drill out a hole with the smallest bit i can find, then place a foil patch on the back of the lens cap and secure with black tape. Then will gently puncture the foil with the tip of a pin to make the smallest hole i can with the cleanest edges. Not sure how small that will be. I did read somewhere online that something on these lines would be the equivalent of f/200 or thereabouts!

I am out on the road, I wonder what I have with me that I could also make one..

This could be a fun community wide Challenge Graeme.

Looking forward to the images Graeme. An easy experiment - can get a body cap for a couple of bucks off ebay to try.

Ok here go two samples. Using DSLR has its advantages as liveview still worked and could adjust ISO and length of exposure. Wonder if that counts as cheating?

Thanks Jim. It worked better than I thought. Having it on a digital body really helps. I think that it makes life easier if shot in bright conditions

I wonder if you could do star trails with a pinhole camera ?
You must be reading my mind!!! I was thinking the same thing.

I am guessing the pinhole might need to be a little larger? Unless like you said you are just going for star trails.

I think the larger the hole the focus will suffer. Tho more light in. Hmm a compromise like everything else
