I wasn't sure to put this here or in the Travalog section. Even though its a part of my Middle East vacation, you also can't get much more historic than this site

Mount Nebo is an elevated ridge in Jordan, approximately 1,000 meters high, located near Madaba and the Dead Sea. Famed as the biblical site where Moses saw the Promised Land before dying, it features the Moses Memorial Church and a panoramic view of the Jordan Valley, Dead Sea, and Jerusalem.

Key Facts About Mount Nebo (Jordan)
  • Biblical Significance: According to Deuteronomy, this is where Moses viewed the land of Canaan and died.
  • Location: Situated roughly 26 km from Amman and 10 km northwest of Madaba.
  • Key Site - Siyagha: The highest peak, hosting the remains of a 4th-century Byzantine church and monastery, along with intricate mosaics
  • The Serpent Sculpture: An iconic brass sculpture designed by artist Giovanni Fantoni, symbolizing both Moses' bronze serpent in the desert and the cross.

Entrance to the site, it was quite windy that day/

Not a very clear day, but this is the view Moses was said to have had looking due west over the Jordan river. You can barely see Jerusalem which is about 27 miles from here

This view I was looking over my right shoulder.

And a small section of mosaic floor of the Franciscan Church which was located behind me from the 1st image

The hazy skies are pretty common during the summer months. The Serpent Sculpture wasn't there when I visited back in the 1970's. I liked the mosaics but it's hard to get a good angle to shoot them. You shot worked out fairly well.

Very cool job Ed. I like each of these, it's so cool that you got to visit these locations.

I think all of your posts from the trip should go in the Travelogue so that they are all in one section for future reference. Technically, there is history (at least to us) in all of your posts.
