Indonesia

Back in 2008 I made a trip to Indonesia to check out the country and it's IR camera industry. At the time they led the world in developing new and innovative internal IR cutoff filters and creative processing techniques. It was a great time and I got to meet a lot of photographers who were proud to show me around their beautiful country.

Looks like a fun place to play with IR photography. I love how the first image worked out with the terraced fields in the last one close behind.

Are you doing this entirely with filters or do you have a converted camera sensor dedicated to IR work?

Alan, these were all made with a converted camera, a Nikon d80 with 665nm internal filter. I forgot to mention that in my post. I liked the 665 conversion best when I was doing false color images.

Nice set of IR images Michael. These are really making me think of getting a 665nm filter. The 2nd one is my favorite of the set with the 4th close second.

Hey Michael, what a fun trip that must have been. I have been to the Philippines, and I would think they would be pretty similar.

Great work on these IR images. All of these are great, and I do agree with Jameel that #2 really stands out. It's one of those busy images that doesnt feel busy but intriguing.

Many parts do look similar - there are rice terraces near Banaue in North Luzon, Philippines, but the temples in Bali are really wild and unique, nothing like that.

I have been to Banaue. Those Rice Terraces look really similar. I do agree, the temples are completely different. In the Philippines, they are mainly Catholic, so lot's of really old Catholic churches. I don't recall seeing any temples, though the Philippines is huge with lots of islands, and I was only on 3 or 4 of them.

Have you been to the Philippines as well?

Yes, back in my world traveler days I saw a lot of SE Asia, only regret was not making it to Vietnam. I used to plan a route, then fly in and rent a motorbike and head out. It was a cheap way of getting around and seeing the places off the regular tourist's routes.
