Hospital Reef

From 2 weeks ago in San Diego. After Christmas shopping I made sure I had time to zip over to Hospital Reef in the La Jolla area. I was thinking the tide might be a little too high, but with the Daylight Savings time change, it all worked out perfectly. The sky went crazy, and the reds have been a pain to reel in, but hopefully they are sufficiently subdued. This is an area that I really enjoy due to those pockets in the foreground, and if you angle it just right you can get whatever color is going off in the clouds to then reflect in the water in the pockets.

All comments are welcome,

Jim

Beautiful image Jim. Great foreground and the sunset colors in the sky really makes the composition that much better.

beautiful shot. The colors in the sky and reflections really pop. The only thing I might have done different is to get closer to those pockets so they take up the foreground and become the star of the shot.

JIm that’s a great shot.. The reds look fine and you did hit the angle right.. the color in that pocket field reflecting in the FG makes the shot for me.

Thanks for daylight savings ! This is pretty slick. Love the slightly geometric pattern going on.

Wow great shot...I really like the way the hues of red and pink play.

Thanks Joe for the suggestion. I couldn't really get any closer because I was sharing the composition with 2 other people and didn't want to hog it and get in other peoples way. :)

Wow, Jim, this is killer! Has an early 2.5 billion years ago primordial ocean on Mars feel to it! (OK, I just watched an episode of How The Universe Works, so work with me here :) ). But seriously, a very nice comp with those foreground pockets and the the sky color! The color looks very fine to me, so whatever editing done there has seemingly worked well.

Lovely stuff!
