Another go at a famous lone tree

This is Sycamore Gap on Hadrian's Wall. I went out on Wednesday evening to get this shot. The forecast looked perfect with no low level clouds, about 10% mid level and 50% high level. This should have produced a stunning sunset but I only a got a nice sunset. Hadrian's Wall runs East West across the country but at this time of year, this far North, the sun sets far to the NNW thus allowing a sunset behind the tree and the just visible Hadrian's Wall. I should be grateful for what I got and have another couple of weeks to, hopefully, get a stunner. I can't make up my mind whether to through the tree and foreground into complete silhouette, leave a hint of detail, as here, or brighten it up. I bracketed the shots and can do anything. Any thoughts. PS I could always merge in a spectacular sunset. Ken

I like the tree as a silhouette in front of the sunset colors but a touch more light in the foreground might help. Not a lot since I think the tree as a silhouette is fantastic.

That's interesting Ken. You do have a few clouds in the sky to add something there. My inclination is for more detail on the ground, though good silhouettes are hard to come by.

One thought for you on this is to crop off the left side at about the top of the left hill. With the clouds on the left not having any color, and the hill dropping down, I think that whole dynamic breaks up the symmetry otherwise possible.

That old tree and Hadrian's Wall is certainly another reason to be jealous of your area!

Like that tree and the clouds. Another nod to the idea of a crop putting the tree at the thirds, losing the left side.
