Afternoon In The Land Of Enchantment

In the heart of the vast San Juan Basin, it's astonishing how nature’s expanse can leave one utterly breathless.

Two weeks ago, during a late afternoon drive, I chanced upon an uncharted road in Navajo territory, and there, the majestic Shiprock beckoned for my gaze.

As I stood entranced by its splendor, my attention was suddenly seized by the gathering storm clouds in the northeast, their presence ominous yet captivating.

Quickly I readied my camera to encapsulate this theater of nature. The heavens shifted, with hues transitioning from subdued greys to deep, resplendent golds. As if crafted by a divine artist, the evening sun bestowed its brilliant luminescence upon the Mesa Verde plateau.

The west-facing cliffs erupted in vibrant life, revealing the intricacies of canyons, pinnacles, buttes, and slopes. The stratified layers, with shades of brown, white, yellow, and black, became vividly distinguishable.

With bated breath, I pressed the camera's shutter, securing this kaleidoscope of nature for eternity. That evening in the San Juan Basin was far from just another sunset; it was an awe-inspiring ode to the earth's ceaselessly evolving tapestry.

San Juan Basin, New Mexico.

Wow! What a great looking photo Oliver. That is quite the scene, so majestic! And a wonderful writeup again.

And yeah, you know when you have to save an image in Photoshop as a PSB you might be in for some trouble. :)

Thanks, Jim.

I think it's the high altitude that makes these clouds so gorgeous in the evening. When I got back, I looked up the google map only to be astonished how far I could see.

To me it's a rarity, you probably have seen this so many times.

Lovely image Oliver. I thought that I made things complicated for myself but a 30 image stack seems excessive. My recent experiments in photostacking has resulted in a few very large PSBs. 14.4GB is the largest, my computer doesn't have any problems dealing with files of this size although loading and saving is slow. Hear, hear, Ken !

I work on files over 1 GB very regularly, especially when it comes to telephoto panoramas, it's fun to push software to the limit.
