Abrahams Lake - Alberta - Bubbles - not yet Frozen Dec 16

I am just posting here because I know the moderator was musing about a trip to take bubble under ice pictures in Alberta in early January. And I have lost my phone to text him until tomorrow.

I did a big loop (Calgary to Banff to Saskatchewan Crossing to Nordegg and down to Calgary on highway 40 - don't do this without good off road tires and it has recently snowed) and found:

Abrahams Lake was completely open - weather has not been very cold lately so early January sounds risky.

Bow Lake is snowed over.

Vermillion is likely snow covered now with recent large snowfall.

Hey Scott! Thanks for the update. That gives me something to chew on. I wasn’t planning on heading out until Jan 1st, so I will have to check the conditions again in a week and then plan accordingly.

Hopefully you get your phone back, we are so dependent on those things it would be a pain to not have one.
