A Good Start

Early this week I posted a sunrise shot from a while back wishing that we would get another nice one one of these days. The "one of these days" happened Wednesday morning when we had an approaching front right at dawn and I was up early enough to get my drone up in the air for the color show. This shot is from about 4 minutes into the flight with a color show that lasted for just over 20 minutes. The early colors were just down near the horizon so I started out using the longer lenses on my drone and backed out to the wide angle after the colors advanced. This is a 3 shot panorama using a 166mm lens at an altitude of 300' showing Mt. St. Helens on the left and Mt. Adams on the right. While I did bring up the light in the shadows a bit there were no details visible on the screen when I was shooting - just silhouettes of the ground layer.

That's an awesome way to start your day Alan! Love those colors, and keeping the ground dark is a good reminder to not always increase the Dynamic Range as much as possible. Sometimes less is more.

Thanks Jim - wait until you see what happened after I took this shot. The whole sky lit up for a bit - this was just the starting point.
