2 Scenics from Custer State Park

Back from a very short trip to Custer State Park. My original thought was to mostly shoot wildlife, but for a number of reasons I did not get that 'amazing Bison image' I was hoping for, although I will probably still post a couple from the trip after I am done looking them all over. As luck would have it I did get 2 scenic shots I liked, ironically from the very first image and then the very last image of the trip :)

On our only day in the park we got out somewhat early and I really liked the play of early morning light through the many clumps of Ponderosa Pines in the park. here is my first capture taken just after getting onto the wildlife loop:

Back at our campsite later in the day we decided to take a small hike around Bismark Lake. The light was pretty harsh at that time of day, but I still managed to blend 2 exposures to get something representative of the wonderful path around the lake:

I really like the scene in the second image. The yellow leaves almost lend a fall mood to the scene. The trail as a leading line worked well here.

That's a fun area! I like #2 the best also, but not positive about the framing with that tree on the left side.

Have you been up to the Badlands NP yet?

Jim,

Did not make it to the Badlands. With only one full day and our dog with us it just wasn't practical. Disappointing, but will stay on the future trip list for sure.

I can't more highly recommend the Badlands NP. Custer State Park is nice, but to me reminds me very much of a 100 places in Colorado. The Badlands? There is only 2 or 3 places like it in the whole United States. You are only a little over 6 hours away from it, it's a can't miss destination.
