Take a tour of Yankee Boy Basin in Colorado with me. It was wet and rainy, but lot's of fun and we get to explore both wildflowers and waterfalls.

Before you get to Yankee Boy Basin in SW Colorado, there is a turn off for Imogene Pass, and pretty tough 4x4 trail. There also happens to be a nice area to photograph Sneffels Creek there with wildflowers. So every time I go up to Yankee Boy, I stop here to work this little area.
This is from...
This also is from Yankee Boy Basin. This is one of many waterfalls along Sneffels Creek. There are always some wildflowers adorning the edges of it, but there is also a lot of bare earth and rock on that side. Which the bare areas bug me, so I try to compose to eliminate them as much as possible...
This was from last month in Yankee Boy Basin in SW Colorado just out of Ouray Colorado. It was storming and raining with thunder going off almost overhead. I had a short window when it was only slightly raining to photograph and video. In between I ran back into my Jeep to sit out the hail...
Rolling out a Carpet of Wildflowers that is. :)
This is in the San Juan Mountains of SW Colorado up at Yankee Boy Basin at sunset. Not a lot of clouds at sunset as the earlier storm clouds we almost gone, but the majority that was left was behind me. But I liked that peak being lit up and the...
That is summertime in Yankee Boy Basin in SW Colorado. You want to call it springtime but it's actually summertime when the wildflowers bloom in the high altitudes of the mountain basins.

This is the Road to Governor's Basin which is south and at a higher elevation then Yankee Boy Basin. It's a narrow one way road for much of the drive, so careful driving with keeping an eye looking ahead but also making mental notes of where possible pull outs are become a very valuable trait...
Here is the B&W version of my Stormy Spring, a shot from Yankee Boy Basin outside of Ouray Colorado during the Wildflower season. Monika suggested I try B&W and here it is. :)
The Color version is here: https://www.focalworld.com/index.php?threads/stormy-spring.10445/

Well, in this case Spring was actually in August since the wildflowers were so delayed in Colorado. This is in Yankee Boy Basin and the afternoon thunderstorms were so delightful and full of energy.
The B&W Version can be found...
This is from Yankee Boy Basin as the sun had set and the twilight was lighting up the clouds and peaks a bit. It was a beautiful time to be out and the wildflowers made for a great carpet. There was no one else but me there, so I had the whole basin to play around and run around in as the light...
As you head up to Yankee Boy Basin in SW Colorado outside of Ouray, you have an option to head South and up to get to Governor Basin. Now Governor Basin is a lot less traveled then Yankee Boy Basin, the road spends a lot of time being on the edge of a cliff and only single lane, so it can be a...
The San Juan mountains had a huge snowfall this year (reports said 600-700% more than average). Avalanches abounded in this area snapping trees off leaving debris behind. Here there are not many trees as in other places since the tree line is right here. The 'spires' are what caught my attention...
From a few weeks ago in Yankee Boy Basin outside of Ouray Colorado, I found the place just carpeted with wildflowers. It was pretty crazy, every color imaginable was there.

I was up in Yankee Boy Basin in Colorado the other day and on schedule in the afternoon the thunderstorm rolled in and the rain started. While sitting in my Jeep I saw this and shot it.
It’s a bit of an abstract but I liked it.

Yankee Boy Basin is wild with wildflowers and an incoming storm. The wet weather made the wild colors even more wild, I had to pull back on the saturation as the greens were just too green and a bit blinding.

Another from Yankee Boy Basin in the San Juan's in Colorado. The hope was to get wildflowers captured along with the waterfalls. It was rainy and overcast. I kept this one in Color, one of the reasons I had converted the previous shot to B&W is that the greens with all that moisture were just so...
