    4 minutes of Vestrahorn Sunrise

After almost 8 months from my last visit, I am almost ready to go back to Iceland for about two weeks of photography there! Iceland is always beautiful, but in winter is truly amazing and I am very excited to be there again. Here's a shot from my last visit, taken at the amazing Vestrahorn...

    A Vestrahorn sunrise

Vestrahorn, in Iceland, is a truly amazing place. A classic, I know, but a classic I am never tired to photograph, like here on a very cold March sunrise. 13 seconds with my Hasselblad X1D, Hasselblad XCD 21mm and my Formatt-Hitech Firecrest Ultra filters. Thank you for viewing, best regards...

    Balancing Act

Wind, sand and a twig make for an interesting landscape with the Vestrahorn as a backdrop.

    Vestrahorn at Midnight

Another view of the Vestrahorn. Grass roots spread out like a spider web on the black sand.

    Black Sands and Vestrahorn

The winds in Stokksnes blow the black sands into ripples and ridges making for interesting compositions.

    Vestrahorn in Mono

This image is a nearly 3.5 minute exposure using a 15-stop ND plus a 2 stop grad. I envisioned this image in monochrome from the start but the color version is not too shabby either.

    Vestrahorn and Grassy Dunes

I couldn't wait to try to capture my own version of this iconic view of the Vestrahorn. The green grasses on black sand during twilight looked like they were glowing. I added a 2+ minute exposure to streak the clouds and smooth the ocean waters.

    Vestrahorn at Midnight

Whether I captured this image well is not the story. The real story is the emotion that I feel when I see this image. Imagine standing here to see this at midnight at the summer solstice without a single person in sight. I felt humbled, small, exhilarated and alive.

    The Vestrahorn

Visiting Stokksnes and the Vestrahorn was the number priority during my week long trip in Iceland. I was like a giddy kid on Christmas when I arrived and felt even more so when presented with this scene.

Vestrahorn Reflections - Höfn, Iceland We started that day driving from Gullfoss in Western Iceland to the town of Höfn where we'd be spending the next four nights. Our goal for that night was to shoot the Vestrahorn, a 1500 ft mountain that rises above the Stokksness black sand beach and was...
