At Mammoth Hot Creek the photos of it are predominantly from sunrise since the mountains face the east and can get that sunrise glow and show all that cool mountain detail in higher contrast. But in this case we shot opposite normal wisdom since we had hoped to also get some star shots there...

This from a week ago at Mammoth Hot Creek. We had a choice to make for sunrise, there was going to be one day with clear skies and one day with clouds, so we chose to shoot Mammoth Hot Creek with the clear sunrise knowing that the mountains would get lit up and put on a bit of show with that...

Here's a pre-dawn look at hot creek, from a viewpoint near Mammoth in the Eastern Sierra. I didn't expect it to help, but my polarizer actually brought out some detail in the sky. Any thoughts are welcome.
