The eagles can often be seen late springtime in this heavily wooded area running above a split stream that empties into a creek where the herring run. A narrow, curving road runs uphill to to an opening where you can see the valley below and a couple of dead trees are convenient landing spots...
I got up early on Saturday to drive down to the national bison range (between Missoula and Kalispell) hoping to see some wildlife activity in the early hours. As it turned out, I did! Here are some favorites from the morning.
1) Bald eagle with some nesting material (to build a place for Easter...
This is from a few months back, just driving a random back road in Colorado after dropping off a couple of the grandkids at gymnastics. I spied a bald eagle in a tree. I had to do a u-turn, and only from this one angle could I see the eagle through the maze of branches. I felt really happy and...
My wife and I got a couple of inflatable paddle boards last summer. Living close to Lake Stevens made it a no brainer for casual stress free exercise. We are never going to be extreme (we don't go when there's much wind or waves). A few more miles from our house is little Lake Casidy which...
Didn't think I'd get a keeper with the iPhone, but I had it in my hand when I heard the cry and saw the bird coming I thought, "Why not try?"
Deception Pass state park, WA. iPhone 11 pro
My wife and I spent a night at Deception Pass state park breaking in our new truck-camper. After a leisurely breakfast in the warmth of the camper (the best upgrade from our old van for Debbie) we went for a nice walk down to the beach. I just slipped my iPhone 11 Pro into my pocket instead of...
From this last week at the San Gabriel mountains here in Southern California. There is a pair of nesting bald eagles there with 2 young bald eagles that hatched a while back. Thanks to a kind photographer Annie (who joined the FocalWorld too) I made a few adjustments to my camera to better shoot...
Sunny clued me in on this spot, it's up in the San Gabriel Mountains here in Southern California. I was shocked to hear we had wild Bald Eagles in SoCal. I am surrounded basically by hundreds of miles of houses and buildings here, so I would never have guessed we had a pair of Bald Eagles so...
I took a number of shots as this eagle flew by, but the bird in this shot with the sea-stack in good position wasn't sharp so I copied it from another in the sequence, enlarged it a bit, and pasted the sharp bird over the blurred.

Like many of you I love trees and am always on the lookout for one that stands out that I want to revisit in different moods. These shots were taken over a 3 day period of a tree on a sea stack at Point of Arches in Olympic National Park.
