"The Drying Room"
Havana, Cuba
At LaGuardia restaurant in Havana, they use this room to dry the tablecloths each day. Beautiful late morning light streams in from the high arch windows.
Huge kudos and thanks to Chris Lord for the idea to use a long exposure for this scene! Awesome idea!
"Morning Cigar" and
"Curbside Transaction"
Trinidad, Cuba
I saw this gentleman standing in the doorway of his home while we walking around Trinidad early in the morning. He was enjoying a morning cigar and watching the street activity. I asked and received permission to take his photograph...
"The Carpentry Shop"
Havana, Cuba
This is from my week spent touring Cuba. We were walking around the city streets and saw this carpentry shop. There was some really nice light coming through a skylight, so we asked permission to take a few images.
Cuba - Real and Raw
"Curious"
Cuba - Real and Raw
We were out walking around the streets of Trinidad early in the morning. Children had on their school uniforms and were making their way to school using different forms of transportation. I saw them walking, on the back of electric motorcycles driven by a parent...
"The Best"
Cuba - Real and Raw
We came across this barbershop while walking around the streets of Havana one late afternoon. This gentleman is waiting for his turn in the barber chair. I like how the sign profiles the barber's own haircut! I was able to capture a series from across the street...
"Cuba Cool"
In my quest to get images of barbers and their shops, at the request of my own barber, we found this cool guy while walking around Havana one evening. From the window outside I asked permission to come in and take a few images. He had this little space that was part of a larger...
Mother and Daughter
Faces of Cuba
Cuba - Real and Raw.
While walking around Havana on our second day of the tour we came across these two beauties in the doorway of their business.
Dairy Queen - Cuban Style
Cuba - Real and Raw
I saw this scene while walking around Trinidad in the evening. Clearly it was a business, but I was not able to read the sign. Some patience paid off. Someone came up to the window, money exchanged hands and a soft serve ice cream cone was handed...
Cuba - Real and Raw
Meet Juan Carlos. When I told my barber that I would soon be traveling to Cuba for a week tour, he asked me to take a picture of a barbershop, if possible. I found Juan Carlo at his shop, working late, while we were walking around Trinidad in the evening. He asked where I...
"More Cuban Chrome"
Cuba - Real and Raw
Another image of some of the classic cars in Cuba. This is from our first night in Cuba, at the Central Park in Old Havana.
How many "star bursts" can you get from one street lamp?!
"Meet Isis"
Cuba - Real and Raw
Yes, her name is really Isis. While some of us were walking around Trinidad in the evening we came across a restaurant/bar that was open. Isis was the hostess and greeter at the front door. She presented herself as an excellent "Faces of Cuba" subject and...
"Milk Rations"
Cuba - Real and Raw
I was told that in order to get milk, you had to have children in the household that were less than 5 years old or there had to be a pregnant woman in the household. Then you qualified to get a ration card. People showed up to this doorway with their ration...
