The Lofoten Islands in Northern Norway have become a popular location for hiking, boating and exploring in the summer and for viewing (or attempting to view) the northern lights in the winter. Even though there are some...
Here is an s-curve in the sky from Skagsanden beach in Lofoten. Up to this point the aurora had been a low arch in the sky. I zoomed in to fill the frame with more color and as I started taking photos I saw the aurora curve up into the sky as shown here. I didn't notice the purple fringing until...
The fatigue and weariness I'm experiencing today--the result of accumulated sleep deprivation brought about by a few too many late-night photo sessions to take advantage of the great conditions we have had over the past week here in the central-eastern South Island of New Zealand--seems worth it...
Last night I planned to get to bed early, since I had been out at 3:30am to shoot the Milky Way and had been prevailed upon to do the same this morning for another friend. So I was all set to go to sleep at 9pm when my iPhone started to rattle uncontrollably with notifications of a strong aurora...
If you have an Aurora App, that's the alert you get. And that is what I saw this past October while shooting fall colors with TimMC in Michigan. This is from Split Rock Lighthouse along the North shore of Lake Superior in Minnesota.
I have already posted a couple images from there, but while...
Last month I was fortunate enough to be able capture the Northern Lights, the Aurora up at Split Rock Lighthouse along the North Shore Drive of Lake Superior in Minnesota. This was my 3rd camera I had set up. I went vertical with this one because of all of the action in the sky. I didn't think...
This was another angle that I set up once I saw where the Aurora was being centered at. Taken with the Sony A6400.
All comments are welcome,
Jim

From a couple of weeks ago at Split Rock Lighthouse along the North Shore of Lake Superior in Minnesota when I was able to capture the Northern Lights.
I had set up 3 cameras, this one was the Sony A6400 with the Samyang 12mm f2.0 lens. I aimed it at where the Aurora had the most activity in...
When I was able to catch the Northern Lights or Aurora up at Split Rock Lighthouse along the North Shore of Lake Superior in Minnesota, I set up 3 cameras to capture it at different angles orientations. This was the first one I set up, my Nikon D850 with the Sigma 14mm f1.8.
As I mentioned in...
I finally was able to capture the Aurora! A lifelong dream finally came true. I had researched into flying up to Yellowknife in Canada and Fairbanks in Alaska, and I had also had thoughts that maybe on one of the solar storms I could just drive north until I saw it. Well driving to see it is...

So here is my entry, a 6 second exposure, from a night up above the Arctic circle in Norway, on the Island of Kvaløya. I had gone out to shoot aurora, and had dutifully been facing north, and there were some weak...
Hey guys,
I just got back from Norway last night and since I was wired from 4 flights I just decided to work on photos through the night instead of sleep :D
I went with 2 photo buddies from the UK and we tent camped through the mountains and a few beaches. This was my first time seeing the...
With a very low chance for auroras, and a high chance for smoke, I drove up to Glacier against my better judgement earlier this week..in hopes of getting lucky.
When I got to the Flathead Valley the smoke was not too bad, relatively speaking, and I could see blue skies peaking through the haze...
Since this is a big week for events in the sky I thought these might be appropriate. Theses are all from an amazing night I had a few falls ago up in Yellowknife Canada . Some may have sen these posted in another forum a few years ago but for those who have not I hope you enjoy. These along with...
There is an issue with Uploading Photos (attachjments). I am not sure what the problem is, and I am looking into it. You can still try to Create your Threads and Upload your Photos, but it is hanging up during the Upload.
