Great image! Could not tell from the info - is it saying 242 stacked images of 1 second duration each, or is it just one 1 second exposure? Very nice color and a low noise result. I have not been able to do as well with my 5DSr so I am interested to hear more about your technique, if you care to share.
Hi Mike, and thank you very much. I am not sure what info you are seeing. Is that in the exif? At any rate, this was a combination of two separate exposures. The first one one, of the ground, was by partial moonlight and could well have been 242 seconds; it was a few minutes. The second, for the sky, was 20-30 seconds. I think both were at f/2, at ISO 1600.
This obviously benefited a lot from being able to use the Sigma 14 mm f/1.8; it would have been hard to do this with even an f/2.8 lens, since the moon was only about 30%. I have not done as well on astro with my 5DSr before getting this lens.
Beautifully composed and executed! I have yet to try a Milky Way shot. Now that I'm retired, that will most likely change soon. I'm still trying to navigate this site. Again, wonderful work!
Perfect - that is the info I was after. That wonderful Sigma 14mm f/1.8 is already on my list, especially after seeing this and a few shots that one of my friends has taken with it. Definitely a truly awesome lens for nightscape shooting! Thanks so much for sharing this wonderful image and a few details on the exposure settings too.
